In 1933, Monto golf began on land directly across the road from the turnoff to the Golf Club on the Monto-Biloela highway.
After some difficulties, the golfers moved to land bounded by the Burnett Highway and Luthje’s Road.
The current location of 67 acres adjoining Rifle Range Road was leased from the Lands Department on 1st January 1936 with Mr Bill McGeever and Mr Harry Bandidt as joint tenants and trustees. On 18th August 1952, the lease was transferred to Mr Peter Gardiner, Mr Bill McGeever and Mr Harry Bandidt as trustees.
The Club engaged the services of a golf course architect to design the course as it stands today known as the McArthur Plan.
Unfortunately, Club records and minutes from 1933 to 1950 were destroyed by mice however the Associates (Lady) records date back to their first meeting held at Patrick’s Cafe on Saturday 20th May 1033 with 17 in attendance. In 2001, Associates were granted full membership and are now referred to as Lady Members.
The Club colours, Royal Blue and Old Gold bordered in Chocolate Brown were adopted in 1933.
In 1950, plans and specifications were drawn up for a new Clubhouse. In 1952, the present site was selected and builder Mr G Hampson was instructed to build the existing Clubhouse. Gradual improvements such as kitchen, toilets, cold room, air conditioning and outside covered area have been made.

Many improvements have been made to the course mostly by voluntary labour, in particular the installation of the irrigation system. The first grass green was established in 1965 and nine grass greens completed in 1975. Most greens have been restructured since that time with all greens returfed with 328 couch grass. In acknowledgement of the contributions of greenkeeper Mr Keith Murr in redesigning No 6 green, the green has been named in his honour. Likewise, the tee box on No 6 has been named in honour of Mt M Bracewell for his contribution as voluntary tee keeper over many years.
During the period 1975-76, the dam on No 8 and by wash was constructed and in 1977, the fairway irrigation system was installed. In 2005, the Club was successful in obtaining a grant of $19,000 for the construction of a dam above No 1 green for the storage of treated effluent from the Monto Shire Council (now the North Burnett regional Council). In March 2010, the laying of underground pipes on the course for utilisation of the recycled water was completed with council delivering the water to our boundary in December 2010. As yet, Council have not been able to provide further details about pumping costs with supply ongoing since September 2012.
In 1983, the Club celebrated its 50 year Jubilee with a large number of members and ex-members attending. Also in that year, the Club secured freehold status.
Part-time green keeper, Mr Keith Murr, was appointed full-time in 1988 until October 2002 on his retirement although he remained actively involved in the management of the greens for a number of years. Mr Merv Dean was appointed replacement green keeper until his resignation in 2005. Mr Martin Briffa then performed a part-time role until 2011 being replaced by Mr Tony Dillon on a part-time basis.
In 2003, the Club celebrated its 70th year with presentations made to long standing members. Mrs Del Heath and Mr Keith Murr have recorded 60 years membership.
In total, six members have been granted Life Membership. Mrs Ethel Buckby (1964), Mr Dan Currier (1991), Mr Matt Bracewell (1992), Mr Keith Murr (2003), Mr Adrian Kummerfeld (2009) and Mr Wal Wilkes (2009).
